Junior Aubrey Gardiner is slated to be next year’s captain of the Whitehouse cheer squad.

“I’m very excited,” Gardiner said. “It’s always been a goal of mine, and I always wished for this to happen.”

Gardiner’s experience in gymnastics and cheering helped her with this endeavor.

“I did gymnastics for eight years,” Gardiner said. “I started [being on cheer] in my 7th grade year, and have done it ever since.”

The competitive cheer captain tryouts had Gardiner on edge, but she prevailed.

“For the cheer captain tryouts, you have to make up a cheer and a chant,” Gardiner said. “You also have to make a binder that has all the pep rally themes and ideas you’d like to do next year and have an interview with the coach.”

She also enlisted the help of some of her friends for her binder.

“I have a friend, Taylor Watkins, that helped me prepare. Cheyenne [Channel, current cheer captain] was a huge help for the binder.”

Even though next year will be stressful for her, Gardiner will have a great time next cheering on the Whitehouse Wildcats.
