In the past year, there has been many cases of school shootings or stabbings at high schools and colleges. It seems that no matter how many laws we make against guns or for school zone safety, our situation always still ends with a student or teacher being injured, or even worse, killed.

In my opinion, it’s time for drastic measures to be taken so students and faculty members have a better advantage against school attacks.

The topic of open carry for guns can be somewhat of a sticky situation for states, but what if we allowed open carry for teachers? This could help schools in panic situations when dealing with shootings or other life threatening situations.Teachers and students are left unprotected in a classroom and all they can do is hide and turn off the lights, hoping no one dares to enter the room.

Teachers and students should have the right of protection and not solely depend on one or two police officers who may or not have a gun on their campus. The teachers should be able to carry guns, but only if they earn a gun license and go through training to know how to handle the weapon. This could help tremendously in future situations and even prevent death or injuries.

If a shooting happened in a very populated area such as a cafeteria, the shooter could kill and injure many students in a matter of seconds. Having other staff members armed could stop these dangerous acts before they get to out of control.

Yes, the idea of bringing guns into a school isn’t all good. However, it would be better to have protection than to be in a deadly situation and unable to defend yourself.
