NFL 2016: My Predictions

Predicted Winner- Dallas Cowboys

Best Player- Ezekiel Elliott

The Cowboys have exceeded most people’s expectations so far this season, starting out 7-1 at the top of the division. The rookie sensations Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott have both taken the league by storm. Many people questioned the decision by the cowboys to pass up on cornerback Jalen Ramsey and chose the running back out of Ohio State, but after nine weeks, Zeke is not only leading rookies in rushing but the entire NFL. From fourth overall pick to fourth round pick, ex- Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott was also a great pick by the Cowboys front office. Dak broke TOM BRADY’S record for most pass attempts to start a career without an interception. With Elliott running for 100+ yards every game, Prescott not turning the ball over, and the offensive line blocking the way they have been, the Dallas Cowboys offense is scary.

The NFC east has recently been talked about as the worst division in the NFL besides the AFC south, but not this year. The last placed Eagles have a record of 4-4. It is the only division without a losing record team. 2nd overall pick Carson Wentz has also been a rookie sensation for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Predicted Winner- Minnesota Vikings

Best Player- Stefon Diggs

The Vikings went the farthest without losing a game to start the season, but after an embarrassing 21-10 loss to the Eagles on the road it left many people wondering, are the Vikings actually good? Or was their easy schedule giving their fans false hope? Either way, with Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers struggling, the Lions coming back to earth, and the Bears being the Bears, Minnesota should win the division with no problem. To make a playoff run, Sam Bradford needs to play like the Heisman out of Oklahoma and the other Oklahoma ex-Adrian Peterson has to stay healthy.

Predicted Winner- Atlanta Falcons

Best Player- Matt Ryan

The Falcons Offense is probably the best in the NFL. Matt Ryan is having an MVP season, Julio Jones is first in receiving yards Devonta Freeman is eighth in rushing. With such a high-powered offense how have they already lost twice? Ask Texas Tech, the answer is the 259 points they have allowed which is the 3rd worst in the NFL only behind the Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers. The Falcons Defense is lucky this season because of the Offense and the NFC south being terrible. The defending NFC champion Panthers are 3-5 this year, allowing the Falcons to run away with the division this year.

Predicted Winner- Seattle Seahawks

Best Player- Bobby Wagner

Kickers never get any attention. Unless they miss a field goal, specifically a short field goal to win a game. Which both the Cardinals AND the Seahawks did on a Monday night game in Arizona. The game ended in a tie, and in my opinion is was a must-win game for the Cardinals, not a Must-Not-Lose. That was the Cardinals chance to compete for the division. Now the Seahawks have a pretty easy schedule besides week 10 in New England. The teams Match up one more time in Seattle in week 16.

For Seattle, things are looking good. The defense is looking good as usual, the running game is working pretty well after the loss of Marshawn Lynch, and Russell Wilson is finally starting to play like Russell Wilson.

Predicted Winner- New England Patriots

Best Player- Tom Brady

Tom Brady is unstoppable. He is playing the best football of his career at age 39. After being suspended the first four games, Brady was hungry, and he was ready to get back to the field. With the way Brady is playing it will be impossible for them not to make the playoffs. The Patriots are the best team in the AFC by far and are expected to make yet another super bowl appearance, the only question is, against who?

Predicted winner- Pittsburgh Steelers

Best Player- Antonio Brown

The Steelers are always pretty good. This year they are about average but a struggling Bengals and Ravens team, and the Cleveland Browns doing what they do best, the AFC should be a breeze for the Steelers. The offense is doing their part, but the “Steel Curtain” doesn’t exist anymore and the defense has to step it up if they want to have a chance to compete with the Patriots and Raiders for the AFC title.

Predicted winner- Houston Texans

Best Player- Benardrick McKinney

Many thought the Houston Texans would fail this season after the loss of their best player J.J. Watt, but the Houston Texans defense all stepped it up this season. Jadeveon Clowney is starting to look like the number one overall draft pick the Texans hoped he would be. Whitney Mercilus and Benardrick McKinney have come out of nowhere to lead the defense for the struggling Brian Cushing.

On the other side of the ball, it’s not looking as expected. Brock Osweiler is showing why he was a backup in Denver, and only put up average stats. The Texans took a huge chance with him and right now it’s looking like it backfired. It’s not time to give up on him just yet, but it’s not looking good for the 25-year-old from Arizona St. The Texans are still 5-3 in a terrible AFC South, and unless Marcus Mariota or Andrew Luck goes off to have an incredible second half, it looks like the Texans will be taking another trip to the playoffs. Although the Texans may have made a mistake in signing Osweiler, the also made a pretty good move in bringing in Lamar Miller from the Dolphins. If they can’t pass the ball, at least they have a solid running back to provide some offense.

Predicted winner- Oakland Raiders

Best Player- Derek Carr

In probably the most competitive division in the league, I believe the Oakland Raiders will beat out the defending champions and Alex Smiths’ Chiefs. 25-year-old Derek Carr is playing amazing, and if the Raiders do win the division I believe he will win the 2016 NFL MVP award. Amari Cooper is his favorite target and reasonably so, with 800+ yards and five touchdowns, Cooper does not look like a second-year man out of West Virginia. The only problem the Raiders have right now is their defense+, Khalil Mack has five sacks but that’s about it no one is really standing out and I believe it is because of the loss of the legendary Charles Woodson. Mack is a great player but has never had to lead like he is expected to do now. He is still very young, but because he is great. he is expected to take Woodson’s’ spot and lead the defense.
