The votes are in, and the winner is clear: Donald J. Trump will be the next President of the United States.

This was a surprise for many citizens across the country. Most exit polls projected Hillary Clinton to become the next president, but electoral counts show otherwise.

“[Trump’s win] was a huge surprise to me,” senior Tony Staples said. “All the polls gave Clinton a huge advantage.”

As the night went on, reporters from all the major news stations began to seriously consider a Trump win. By the end of the night, Trump had 277 Electoral Votes to counter Clinton’s 228. For the first time in America’s history, someone who has never held office or served in the military has been elected president.
